The first thing you notice when you drive up to what looks like a modern golf club building are the innumerable wreaths and crosses on the fence surrounding the buildings next door. A large parking lot mostly empty and overgrown grass. Soldier Readiness Processing: SRP. That is the building next door.
It looks forlorn and abandoned and after an explanation you understand why we are in this nice building. The one next door is a crime scene. That is where the army psychiatrist (an Islamist fanatic) jumped up, yelled “Allahu Akbar!” and started shooting Soldiers dead. The LA Times initial article states “the alleged shooter”. Strange how with numerous witnesses, 13 dead, 31 wounded and a wounded perpetrator he is still alleged; legally it is alleged but from a practical matter he is guilty. We are in Texas, but there is no evidence of Texas justice. So the building is an “active crime scene” a year later as the trial begins.
